Conflict Management: Negotiation and Mediation - Level 1 is a 3-day, in-depth training programme focused on understanding conflict management and
the differences between the various dispute resolution options.
Participants will have the opportunity to learn and practice mediation and conflict management skills in numerous simulated negotiations, case studies and role-plays. Strategies for removing obstacles to settlement will be explored and applied.

- Conflict management concepts and strategies
- Arbitration principles and procedures
- Interest-based negotiation
- Conflict coaching
- Mediation principles and processes
- Communication skills for managing conflict
Conflict Management: Negotiation and Mediation - Level 2 is a 3-day workshop that delivers advanced skills and practice in mediation.
The focus of this workshop is upon sharpening conflict analysis and mediation skills. Time is devoted to practical mediation simulations and role-plays, and advanced techniques for breaking impasse to settlement.
Topics include:
- Mediation models and methods
- Dealing with impasse
- Working with counsel and other agents
- Ethical dilemmas in mediation
- Civil procedure and mandatory mediation
- Starting a mediation practice
Who Should Attend
Lawyers, mental health professionals, human resource professionals, clerics, educators and others who advise clients about negotiation, arbitration or mediation. Managers wanting to bring mediation skills into their company.
Conflict Management: Negotiation and Mediation - Level 1 & 2: are approved by the ADR Institute of Ontario and are offered in partnership with Conrad Grebel University College at the University of Waterloo. Successful participants will receive a certificate from the ADR Institute of Ontario and 2 credits toward the Certificate in Conflict Management from Conrad Grebel.
